Pop Mart: Mega Space Molly

One move, past a wall of Mollys.

From the delivered film.

The collection is the set, so the camera never stops to introduce anything.

The figures sit in a receding corridor of cases, each one costumed differently and lit from inside its own box, and the camera carries past them without cutting. The variation does the work an edit would normally do.

Holding one move means nothing can be hidden in a cut. The light has to carry the whole length of the shelf, and every figure has to stand up to being seen at the same distance as the one before it.

The shots

Three frames across the move: where it starts, the middle of the pass and where it ends. The piece is one continuous camera rather than a cut sequence, so the row is short by design.

A pencil sketch of the character in wraparound sunglasses, holding a small figure out in one hand, roughed out in loose graphite on white.01
Mega Space Molly in a red fur suit and visor, a clear chest panel packed with coloured gummy figures, LIONCOLONY and NSA badges at the collar.02
A pink furred figure in the same sunglasses inside a mirrored chamber, coloured gummy figures falling from a chute above it against a starfield.03
The first sketch, then what it became.

Credited in

The Smart Local calls the film the brainchild of Oh Jia Hao, better known as Lioncolony. Alvinology and Shout credit it the same way, and Time Out names the studio among the exhibition's collaborators.
